Progeny Systems is a General Dynamics Mission Systems business area. Progeny Systems capabilities include specialized software and hardware solutions for acoustics, cybersecurity, weapon launch and control systems, surveillance, and complex multi-tiered architectures for the Department of Defense (DOD) and other organizations.
Our Mission
Our goal is to support our warfighters every day. We aim to improve their efficacy, safety and defensive strategies. Our main area of support has been the U.S. Navy, but we work with all branches of the military, government and civilian services.
Submarine modernization is one of our core competencies. We have designed, built and provided complete lifecycle support to mission-critical systems across the submarine force.
What We Do
From development, production, and legacy systems support, to first-time prototypes, we develop military solutions that span sea, land and air to support the efficacy and safety of our warfighters.
Combat Systems
We provide integrated tactical weapon & payload command, and control & launch capabilities for a number of U.S. and foreign submarine classes.
Torpedo Guidance & Control
We specialize in the design, testing, and production of the latest torpedo guidance and control systems which provide the warfighter with advanced capabilities in target detection, acquisition, and prosecution.
SONAR Systems & Sensors
Our advanced SONAR and Sensor technologies enable mission critical active and passive system capabilities including target and weapon tracking, underwater communication, and data collection.
Cybersecurity
We provide an integrated, centrally managed cyber security capability for tactical systems aboard U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers.
Electronic Warfare
We support the development and production of advanced submarine electronic warfare capabilities including various forms of detection, data storage, dissemination, and hardware installations.
Mission Readiness Systems
We build and deliver shipboard products that support Commanding Officers in assessing the mission readiness of individual crewmembers, watch teams, and critical ship systems.
Mission Planning
We build mission planning systems that enable operators at all levels of command to plan, collaborate, coordinate, execute, rehearse, conduct mission walk-through in 4D, monitor execution, and re-plan in real-time.
Manufacturing & Production
Many of our hardware and technology solutions require custom-produced parts that are manufactured in-house. We are a full-scale supplier from prototype to finished product for electronics manufacturing and integration.
Submarine Test & Evaluation
Our team's technical expertise supports planning, logistics, execution, and data collection for platform development testing, weapons sensor accuracy trials, and weapons compatibility testing of new construction submarines.
Testing Capabilities
Our open water acoustic testing facility is permanently moored in Bay State Quarry in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The facility is outfitted with a modern instrumentation suite, L20 amplifier, and reference projectors and hydrophones to perform a full spectrum of high and low frequency acoustic measurements. The building is climate controlled and useable year round as the surrounding water is kept ice free in winter.

Who We Are
Progeny started off as a small business that grew over a couple decades before a successful integration with General Dynamics Mission Systems. Our work has always focused on the warfighter, platform survivability and modernization.
We have a diverse portfolio of successful and ongoing projects across our many business areas. Several of these projects were awarded to Progeny through Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contracts with the United States Government—many of which are continuing to grow production systems today.
Our headquarters are in Manassas, Virginia and we maintain many strategically located offices nationwide to better serve our customers. In addition to building improved defense systems, we highly value research and technology development. Our work is for the future—to make a better world for generations to come.
