General Dynamic Mission Systems celebrated the christening of the U.S. Navy’s newest Expeditionary Fast Transport, USNS Yuma (EPF 8) during a ceremony at Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016. Yuma is the eighth of 10 Expeditionary Fast Transport vessels, formerly the joint high speed vessel program, that General Dynamics has under subcontract with shipbuilder Austal USA.

General Dynamics is the systems integrator for the Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) program. Using our open architecture system, the U.S. Navy is able to deliver advanced mission capability and streamline the deployment of new and updated technology for the EPF program. The OPEN CI system provides adaptable and highly capable command & control, allowing these ships to transport troops and equipment through the spectrum of traditional logistics missions. The EPF’s ability to access small, minor and degraded ports with minimal external support provides unique options to fleet and combatant commanders for inter-theater lift, engagement, humanitarian assistance / disaster relief missions, as well as special operations support.
