The Secretary of Defense Executive Fellows (SDEF) program, established in 1994, represents a strategic effort by the Department of Defense (DoD) to advance the transformation of military forces and capabilities. This program is a pivotal component of the DoD's strategy to meet its ambitious transformational objectives. This year the General Dynamics Mission Systems Airborne Systems team hosted a fellow and a tour of our Bloomington, Minnesota facility for members of the broader program.

“I was excited to share my experience with Airborne Systems with my fellow SDEF Fellows and am so thankful to the team here for planning such an incredible visit.  You truly showcased what makes this facility great, and the impact that your daily operations have to support us once we’re back in our operational roles,” said U.S. Navy Cmdr. Mel “Bruce” Ahle, a General Dynamics Fellow in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Each year, four or more distinguished military officers or civilian employees from each branch of the military are chosen to participate. These individuals earn senior service college credit by training with prestigious sponsoring institutions, including leading corporations and innovative enterprises. These organizations are selected for their excellence in long-term strategic planning, organizational innovation, and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies.

A Trusted Partnership
“We had a great opportunity to hear directly from General Dynamics Mission Systems leaders about their mission, cutting-edge technology and solutions, and why they are a trusted and experienced mission partner in all domains of the U.S. military and international allies,” said U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Officer Lt. Col. Shane Huff, a Lockheed Martin Fellow.

The SDEF Fellows emerge from this program as a cadre of future leaders, equipped with a deep understanding of the organizational and operational advancements made possible by their comprehensive year-long training.

"Hosting the Secretary of Defense Fellows provides General Dynamics Mission Systems a unique chance to share our expertise, capabilities, and organizational approaches with these future senior military leaders. It’s a privilege for us to contribute to their professional development. The Fellows’ insights and the relationships we establish with them are invaluable as we partner together in advancing joint warfighting capabilities," said Sharon Dunbar, vice president of cross-company business initiatives and a retired major general in the U.S. Air Force.
