Knifefish Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Media Kit

The U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command awarded General Dynamics Mission Systems a contract to design and build Knifefish, the Surface Mine Countermeasures Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) system. Knifefish is being developed to be part of the Littoral Combat Ship Mine Warfare mission package. Knifefish is the first heavyweight class mainstream Mine Countermeasures Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) that will lead to production and deployment by forward operating forces. Acting as an off-board sensor while the host ship stays outside the minefield boundaries, Knifefish will reduce risk to Navy personnel, while providing Navy commanders and sailors with enhanced mine-hunting capability to reliably detect and identify undersea mines, mines in high-clutter environments.
