Common applications for General Dynamics direct drive DC motors include aerospace and defense platforms such as radar, missile seekers and electro stabilized systems.
The direct drive DC torquer motor is ideally suited to high acceleration applications requiring improved response for rapid start/stop actions. We also offer limited angle brushless, slot-less torque motors that do not require commutation electronics and have near zero cogging. Our DC motors:

Brush Type DC Motors
General Dynamics' brush type DC torque motors are engineered for high performance, low cost, and quick delivery. These motors are tooled and designed for producibility. High energy product Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets combined with optimum motor windings provide the maximum torque and performance available in a broad range of frame sizes (1.125” - 5.125” OD). In addition to our standard products, we have decades of experience ready to satisfy the most demanding specification with thousands of models from our proven design data base.
Brushless DC Motors
Brushless DC motors have the same electrical performance operating (transfer function) characteristics as brush-commutated DC motors, and can be used in the same applications. They provide high starting torque, variable bi-directional speed operation, and precision position and velocity servo loop capabilities. They can also replace AC motors in spindle and rotary table drives where the higher torque DC motor can drive the spindle directly, eliminating the need for a belt and pulley.
