How have your managers/mentors supported your success at General Dynamics Mission Systems?
Ever since I started at General Dynamics, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic managers who took the time to recognize the hard work of their employees. When opportunities come up to travel or to take on an additional assignment, my managers have always been there to encourage me to step outside my comfort zone and go learn something new. I also had an opportunity to have a mentor in finance, outside of my area of expertise who provided me with immeasurable new knowledge, connections and career advice.
How have you grown your career while here?
As a member of the Engineering Leadership Program for the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to rotate to different business areas and projects every six to nine months. I’ve worked doing mechanical design, supporting the submarine fleet, processing changes on the Littoral Combat Ship and supporting new business opportunities. Each rotation has expanded my knowledge of the company and I have been given more and more responsibility with each new assignment.
What do you value most about working here?
The chance to be a part of something that keeps our soldiers safe and helps protect the United States every single day.
What fun opportunities has General Dynamics offered for getting to know your colleagues?
I’ve taken advantage of many volunteer opportunities that have allowed me to work with my colleagues on a much more social level, including National Engineers Week, the United Way Campaign and planning the annual company holiday party.
What’s the best part of having 26 three day weekends as part of your 9/80 work schedule?
In the past year, I’ve used my three day weekends to travel to Portland, Seattle, Boston, Dallas, San Francisco and New York City, as well as for appointments, golf outings, ski trips and some much needed rest and relaxation!
