Vice President and General Manager, Ground Systems

Bill Patterson is vice president and general manager of the Ground Systems line of business within General Dynamics Mission Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics. In this position, he leads a team of engineering and technology professionals, responsible for delivering large-scale, resilient, mission-critical networks, command and control systems and training and simulation capabilities for military customers worldwide.

Programs and business efforts within Ground Systems include the U.S. Army’s Tactical Enterprise Network, the Army’s Common Hardware Systems (CHS-5) program, a portfolio of mission command systems including the U.S. Marine Corps Common Aviation Command and Control System , the Army’s Tactical Ground Reporting System and Tactical Airspace Integration System and a portfolio of live and constructive training systems.

Mr. Patterson previously served as vice president of the Surface Ship Systems business area of General Dynamics Mission Systems. Earlier in his career, he was a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, where he provided program management and engineering consultation to numerous clients at the Naval Sea Systems Command. He also worked for General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, where he rose from senior systems engineer to business area director.

Patterson served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy aboard frigates and destroyers in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets and ashore in numerous staff positions.
Mr. Patterson holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.
