Meet Our UX Team
Rudy describes his mission at General Dynamics as “keeping the company creatively charged.” His team is embedded across the organization’s projects to promote the delivery of safe and usable products, systems, and processes.
He insists that the role of UX at General Dynamics is to ensure “exceptional user experience across all hardware and software development, from the simplest devices to the most complex systems.” Rudy began his career in New York City, where he developed promotional campaigns and marketing initiatives for Allure magazine and The New Yorker. In this environment, he was able to experiment with emerging new media technologies to gauge their likely impact on the practice of marketing and promotions.
At élan communications in Pittsburgh, Rudy brought substance and style to the world of face-to-face marketing. He developed comprehensive experiences that delivered his clients’ brand message to trade-show attendees in the context of media-rich, immersive theater. Focusing on big-picture concepts and narratives, Rudy’s designs entertained while covertly delivering substantive product information.
Rudy earned his B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon in 1990 in graphic design, with a concentration in drawing.
Over the last 15 years, Blaine has held key design positions within several award winning design studios across the U.S. His work has intentionally focused on design that matters, and includes the development of products ranging from educational toys to armored personnel vehicles to battlefield map applications.
Krizia is a User Experience Designer. She likes delving into processes and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Arizona State University.
R.J. Barnes works as a User Experience (UX) Designer in Scottsdale, AZ. He has a B.F.A. in Visual Communications with an emphasis in graphic and interactive design from Northern Arizona University. From his transition starting as an intern to his current status, he has worked on projects including WIN-T and JETSS.
Paul is the operations lead for the User Experience (UX) Team at General Dynamics Mission Systems. His background includes over 15 years of experience in engineering management and product development from concept through manufacture, across consumer, industrial, and military sectors.
He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is based at the Taunton, MA site.
Cody Furtado is a Safety Engineer that is part of the UX Team. This University of Rhode Island alumnus enjoys playing golf, going to the gym, and being outdoors.
Kristin Fichtenmayer is a Researcher within the User Experience (UX) Group. She graduated from Bridgewater State College. She has 15+ years of experience at General Dynamics. She has worked as a software and UX engineer on several projects including DPEM, JTRS, BSAM and WIN-T. She specializes in graphical research, design and implementation. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bridgewater State College.
Jon Jolly is a Researcher within the User Experience (UX) group of General Dynamics Mission Systems. His skillset is a balance of formal education in human factors and cognitive science and 10+ years of experience in graphic design and all aspects of interface development. What sets Jon apart is his understanding of user-centered research and design to create efficient, safe, and satisfying products coupled with his technical skills that bridge the gap between designers and engineers.
Prior to joining General Dynamics in 2014, Mr. Jolly conducted usability research with the Veterans Health Administration and has over 7 years of management experience. He is proficient at communicating and collaborating with small and large teams as well as product stakeholders. He is a graduate of Arizona State University (PhD-ABD – Human Systems Engineering & Masters of Science – Applied Psychology). He is based in Scottsdale, AZ.
Braden Jones is a Senior Researcher within the User Experience (UX) group of General Dynamics Mission Systems. He is responsible for infusing the end-users’ perspective throughout the design process. This involves leading user juries, facilitating ‘design thinking’ workshops, mocking up physical concepts, and collaborating with all stakeholders.
Prior to joining General Dynamics in 2013, Mr. Jones was entrenched in the commercial product realm as the manager of Research and Development for Xyron Corp and several design consultancies. He currently holds 13 utility and design patents. Mr. Jones has also served as Vice Chairman of the Industrial Designers Society of America – Arizona Chapter.
He is a graduate of Arizona State University (Bachelors of Science – Industrial Design) and University of Arizona (Masters of Business Administration). He is based in Taunton, MA.
Amanda is a User Experience (UX) Designer with General Dynamics Mission Systems. She earned a BS in Industrial Design and a MS in Interaction Design from Arizona State University. Prior to joining General Dynamics, she worked on enterprise software specializing in the cyber security domain.
Brent Marking has provided 36 years of excellent service to General Dynamics with over 25 years as a leader in System Safety Engineering. Brent has worked on scores of General Dynamics products and systems and has received a Scientific and Technical Society award for his major contribution to development and implementation of the comprehensive System Safety Process.
Don is a system and product safety engineering manager performing system and product safety design engineering. Don holds a Certified Safety Professional (C.S.P.) designation issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) organization. Don manages a team of geographically dispersed Safety Engineers across General Dynamics Mission Systems. Don is also an active Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
Dr Chad Phipps
Dr. Phipps currently works as the User Experience Research Manager who with his team is actively involved in developing innovative usable solutions for today’s warfighter. Previously, he held management positions in the mobile communications area where he was an innovator and developer of advanced phone user interactions and hardware features. Dr. Phipps holds a PhD in Human Factors Psychology from Wichita State University. He has more than 15 years experience in field and holds multiple patents for his innovative work.
Lisa Ramsey is a Senior Researcher on the User Experience team. She holds M.S. & B.S. degrees in Applied Psychology with concentrations in Human Factors and Human Computer Interaction from Arizona State University Polytechnic. She has over 15 years of experience in research. Before coming to General Dynamics Mission Systems, she spent most of her career as an aerospace researcher and manager for the Department of Defense studying pilot training systems and simulations.
Samantha has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and will get her M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida in May 2016. She is based in Orlando, Fl.
Raj is a Senior Researcher in the User Experience team. He brings technical expertise from a range of industries including education, transportation, biotechnology, and defense. He is comfortable interfacing with target users, while also working ‘under the hood’ with engineers, translating user and stakeholder needs into actionable results.
Raj received his M.S. in Cognitive Science from Brown University where his research focused on Human and Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Psychoacoustics, and Ecological Perception & Action. He also holds a dual B.S. degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.
Brad Shroyer comes from over ten years of print and digital design experience and is a 1st Infantry Division veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. At General Dynamics, Brad has the opportunity to combine his past military service with his passion for design. It’s a responsibility he does not take lightly as he offers a unique perspective and is a prior user of military applications.
Elizabeth is a researcher with the User Experience (UX) Team at General Dynamics Mission Systems. Her background includes over 10 years of experience in the military testing community working with prototype and developmental systems as well as supporting the Human Factors and Logistics Evaluation Team for Army Evaluation Center (AEC).
She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.A. in Psychology and is based in Scottsdale, AZ.
Bridgette is an intern with the User Experience (UX) Research group at General Dynamics Mission Systems. She is also currently an undergraduate student at Grand Canyon University, double-majoring in Information Technology and Psychology. Bridgette is relatively new to UX, but is passionate about improving the efficiency, safety, and overall quality of technological products. After graduating, Bridgette plans to seek a Master’s degree in Human Factors.
Martin Stack is a visual designer and front end developer. Martin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Web Design and New Media from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, California. Martin brings 10 years of experience of web design and development to the UX team. In addition to web design, he has worked in visual effects on many award-winning TV shows in Los Angeles. Prior to working at General Dynamics, he had a small web design company where he designed and built web-based systems for companies in Phoenix and Los Angeles.
Katie is our Administrative Assistant, providing support to the UX Team, Finance Department as well as the System Architects. Katie loves a challenge and variety in her work. She is inspired by, and very adept at, the juggling act of managing multiple projects, timelines and communications. Her self-motivation, level of commitment and extreme organizational skills are assets in her role with us.
Joe has over 25 years of experience as a Safety and Human Factors professional working on a wide variety of communication products and systems. He has a passion for fielding safety and usable products and systems. He travels extensively inspecting and testing fielded systems, investigating field incidents and participating in user events.
Jessica Vomocil joined General Dynamics in 2016 as a User Experience Researcher in Scottsdale, AZ. Prior to working for General Dynamics, Jessica worked as a Human Systems Integration Engineer at L-3 Communications Maritime Systems in Leesburg, VA. She has also worked in commercial software development in the discipline of Human Computer Interaction.
Jessica has a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Go Jackets!) and is a student in the M.S. Human Systems Engineering Program at Arizona State University.
Shawnda Williams is the User Experience Design Manager at General Dynamics Mission Systems. She has been leading user-experience projects, directing teams and guiding professionals in their career development for over fifteen years.
Her experience ranges from working for start-ups to Fortune-500 companies (and those that fall somewhere in between). She strongly believes that all types of organizations and their customers can benefit from the type of simple, user-centered design she is passionate about. Her award-winning graphics, nationally recognized marketing initiatives and user-centered designs are featured by brands such as Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Zappos and Red Bull.
Shawnda holds a B.F.A in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and pursued graduate studies in Graphic Design at North Carolina State University.
Jacob is a Researcher with the UX Team at General Dynamics Mission Systems. His UX work focuses on coherent writing and ensuring accurate testing methodology.
Jacob graduated from Huntington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy. He is currently finishing his Master’s Degree in Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University.
As a Senior User Experience Designer and charter member of the UX group, Bradley applies his varied skillset to everything from creating low-fidelity prototypes to leading project stakeholders on vision quests. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and a member of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) Pittsburgh.
