General Dynamics Mission Systems Expands Support to U.S. Navy Independence-Variant Littoral Combat Ship Combat System.

Pittsfield, Mass. – General Dynamics Mission Systems, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), was awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy worth $90.6 million to be the Combat System Engineering Agent responsible for sustainment and upgrades to the Combat Management System for the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).

The contract, announced by the Department of Defense on October 31, includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $393,837,142.

As the prime contractor, General Dynamics will design and integrate updates to the Independence-variant LCS combat suite. That responsibility includes the Integrated Combat Management System (ICMS) software and hardware, and various sensors and weapons onboard the ship, including the electro-optical/infrared sensor, volume search radar, onboard missile system, 57-millimeter gun, electronic warfare suite, communications systems and other electronics.

“General Dynamics Mission Systems is proud to have been selected by the U.S. Navy for this important contract,” said Carlo Zaffanella, vice president and general manager, Maritime and Strategic Systems at General Dynamics Mission Systems. “Our experts have spent many years bringing LCS’ current mission systems to life, and with our open, flexible computing architecture, we are positioned to help the Navy rapidly and successfully incorporate future capabilities.

“Our team recognizes the increasingly critical role LCS plays in the Navy’s littoral battlespace, and the essential part LCS plays in defeating anti-access and asymmetric threats in the littorals. This LCS Integrated Combat Management System and associated combat system elements sustainment contract will help enable LCS to successfully achieve its missions, today and in the future.”

General Dynamics will also develop, integrate, test and deliver future capability builds and technology insertions for the LCS, as well as develop training and logistics products and provide field technical support for designated combat systems variants.

Work will be performed in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; San Diego, California; and Mobile, Alabama, and is expected to be completed by October 2024.
